Robot and cell relocation: scope, records and reacceptance

Robot and cell relocation needs a plan for baseline records, dismantling and transport responsibilities, destination readiness, reinstallation, commissioning and reacceptance. Define responsibilities, records and completion criteria at each stage to compare quotations and plan downtime.

What baseline should be recorded before relocation?

Record equipment identity, current operating condition and known issues for comparison after reinstallation. List existing defects separately from new functionality requested within the relocation.

  • Equipment and accessory inventory, models, serial numbers, layout and interface information.
  • Available program backups, drawings, software versions, licensing records and maintenance history.
  • Baseline records under agreed conditions, including existing alarms, quality issues or cycle-time limitations.

Who owns dismantling, packing and transport?

Use the equipment inventory to divide engineering and logistics responsibilities. For international projects, include origin, destination and import/export documentation requirements in the plan.

  • Responsible parties for dismantling, connection identification, packing, handling, transport and insurance.
  • Installation and fixture-reference records to retain, plus the receiving-inventory process.
  • The process for recording and resolving missing items, transport exceptions and site changes.

How should the destination prepare for recommissioning?

Review destination conditions before shipment. Changes in layout, power supply, connected equipment or products should be assessed as engineering changes, rather than assuming that the original programs will restore production unchanged.

  • Installation location, foundations, equipment access, power, air and network conditions.
  • Readiness of adjacent equipment, fixtures, inspection systems and their interfaces.
  • Site personnel, downtime window, commissioning materials and coordination of both parties’ schedules.

What should reacceptance cover?

Check asset completeness, equipment recovery and process results separately. Agree parts, operating conditions, test records and open items, distinguishing restoration of the original baseline from new performance requirements.

  • Equipment and accessory inventory, configuration checks and document completeness.
  • Records of agreed functional, interface and site safety verification.
  • Process trials, quality inspection, cycle-time records, backups and the final handover list.

Common questions

Does a relocation quotation include freight?

The quotation must specify this. Dismantling, packing, loading, freight, insurance, reinstallation and commissioning may have different responsible parties and should be itemised.

Can the equipment run immediately in its new location?

It needs checks and commissioning based on site conditions, equipment condition and changes, followed by agreed acceptance before production handover.

What is the minimum information for an overseas relocation enquiry?

Start with origin and destination, an equipment list, site photos or layout, operating condition, target downtime window and the work you want Lajiu to undertake.
